Piako time!!

Today we were focusing on the key competency THINKING and we were learning to: create new things and share our creative ideas to others in our group. Here are some photos of us being CREATIVE LEARNERS!

Lucy and Briahna's Giant Tower

Lucy and Briahna made this huge tower this morning, it go so high they needed a bit of help finishing it off!! They measured Mrs Harland next to it, it was as tall as her!! What great teamwork and perserverence girls :)

Graduating!!!

We are so competent that we are graduating to Piako 2!!! We are very excited and are looking forward to the rest of the year. Piako 1 will miss you very very much. 

Piako Time! Thinking

Today our challenge was to be creative with our class. We needed to think up new ideas and work as a team to create. The kids had the challenge of building a town or city, building the tallest tower and building the most interesting or creative tower. Here are some photos of us working as a team to be creative! 

After we built our constructions, we had to share and Miss Bryant asked us how we were being creative and who they saw achieving the WALT. We had to keep an eye out for others as well as ourselves. 

Sophie shares her Korowai!

We were so lucky this morning because Sophie shared her Korowai for Matariki week! She looks amazing! We are making our own class Korowai for Matariki week. 

Science Kits - The Mystery Box

Today we got to explore a Mystery Kit. We were told to explore and be creative. Here are some photos of us making new things and asking lots of questions! 

Quinn and his 2 new Rabbits

Quinn brought his 2 new rabbits in this week to share with us! Their names are Snow and Ice. We wrote some wonderful stories about them 😊

What a champ!! He raced on his bike at the Esplanade on the weekend and won a medal!!  Well done on such a super race!

Kids Chemistry: Zilly the Zebra

Today we started our experiment for Zilly the Zebra!! We have put 2 cups outside- one with white paper around it and the other with black paper around it. We have discussed that dark colours absorb sunlight and light colours reflect it so we understand what we think might happen to the water in each cup. The black cup will get very hot in the sunlight. Here is a picture of the experiment set up: 

Chemistry Inquiry

Today we had another problem but from Zilly The Zebra this time!! She lives in a hot environment and the sun shines on her black stripes and makes them hot! But her white stripes stay cool. Why is this happening?! Here is a photo of the experiment we will do to test whether black and white colours effect the temperature of something. We will be using 2 cups- one cup will have white paper around it and the other cup will have black paper around it. We will check the temperature each hour!! 

But firstly we are drawing our PREDICTIONS - WHAT WE THINK MIGHT HAPPEN. Miss Bryant showed us  what a scientific diagram looks like. 

There will be more to come on the experiment as we are doing it tomorrow!! Very exciting!!

Our Science Ideas

Today we did our HOOK for our Chemistry Inquiry! We had to share what we knew about Science. We are very excited to help our Zoo Keeper out with all of his animals problems. We will be exploring heating, cooling and Mixing and we will be doing a range of experiments to help us understand the different reactions happening. Let's get this going!!!! We are very excited to get started and problem solve!

Easter Baking!

We were sooooo lucky to do Easter baking today! We made Easter Bunny cupcakes, Easter Chicken cupcakes, Easter Egg nests and Easter chocolate bark. Yummy! A huge thanks to Kylie Mulcahy who organised the activities and brought all the ingredience. Also a big thanks to all the Mum's that helped: Reuben's Mum, Monty's Mum and Sophie.B's Mum.
